Red Band Society's Zoe Levin Says She Loves The Mean Girl Roles

Zoe Levin keeps it fresh for her feature in the newest Aritzia issue.

The 20-year-old Red Band Society actress opened up to the site about her role as a mean girl, the roles she’s drawn to and gaming with her co-stars. Check it:

On grabbing those mean girl roles: “There’s just something about mean girls. I was never a mean girl in school, but I love to explore that side of those characters, that gray area and their insecurities—the reason why they’re mean. My mom would always say, ‘You don’t know what’s going on behind closed doors.’”

On her Palo Alto role as Emily: “I was hesitant to take that part, but then I met with Gia [Coppola] who wanted to explore the more vulnerable side of her. It’s the same thing with the mean girl—everyone will look at her and say, ‘Oh, she’s just a b****.’ And they’ll look at the promiscuous girl and say, ‘Oh, she’s just a s***.’ But there’s so much more to these girls than meets the eye.”

On filming Red Band Society in Atlanta and gaming: “It’s made us all so much closer than we would have been if we were filming in New York or L.A. We get so mad at each other [when playing Settlers of Catan] and all of our characters start to come out during the game. I go into Kara mode—it feeds the fire.”
